Get Products from Design to Production Without the Usual Surprises

A design that works on the bench does not always work on a production line, and that gap is where most product delays actually come from. Ascenten Technologies works alongside hardware teams to close that gap early, before tooling is committed and before a small oversight turns into a costly respin.

Our manufacturing engineering work covers DFM and DFA reviews, Component Engineering, Vendor Selection, Production Support, and Test Jig Development. We look at a design the same way an assembly line will, checking what is hard to place, hard to source, or hard to test before it becomes someone else's problem on the floor.None of this is about slowing a project down. It is about catching the kind of issues that, left alone, show up much later as scrap, rework, or a missed shipment date.

Manufacturing Engineering - Ascenten Technologies

Where We Get Involved

Manufacturing problems are usually design problems that nobody caught in time. We get involved early enough to do something about that, and we stay involved through the messier parts of production that most design teams would rather not deal with alone.

Our Engineering Expertise

Every engagement is backed by deep technical knowledge, proven methodologies, and a commitment to delivering robust and reliable products.

Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

A board can be electrically perfect and still be painful to build. Our DFM reviews look past the schematic and into how the design will actually behave on an assembly line, whether that is component spacing, panelization, or solder paste coverage.

Most of what we flag here never shows up as a line item later. It just quietly avoids becoming one.

What we check for:

  • Component placement and spacing for automated assembly
  • Panelization and fabrication tolerances
  • Solder paste stencil and reflow compatibility
  • Thermal relief and via design for assembly
  • Mechanical fit between PCB and enclosure
  • Reduction of manual assembly steps

Design for Assembly (DFA)

Even a design that fabricates cleanly can still be slow or error-prone to put together. DFA is where we look at the build itself, not just the board, and work out what makes assembly faster, more consistent, and less dependent on a specific operator getting it right every time.

A simpler assembly is not a lesser design. It is usually the harder one to get right the first time.

Our DFA review covers:

  • Part count reduction where it makes sense
  • Fastener and connector standardization
  • Component orientation and poka-yoke (error-proofing) features
  • Tooling and fixture compatibility
  • Cable routing and harness simplification
  • Assembly sequence and access planning

Component Engineering

Picking a component that works is the easy part. Picking one that is still available in eighteen months, from a vendor that will actually ship on time, is the part that gets skipped under deadline pressure. Our Component Engineering work is built around avoiding that mistake.

A BOM full of parts that look fine today and disappear next year is a problem we would rather catch now than explain later.

Our component engineering covers:

  • Component lifecycle and obsolescence risk review
  • Alternate and second-source part qualification
  • Cost optimization without compromising reliability
  • Compliance and certification checks (RoHS, REACH)
  • BOM rationalization across product variants
  • Long-lead and allocation risk flagging

Vendor Selection

The right vendor matters as much as the right design. Our Vendor Selection process is built on actual evaluation, not a preferred list someone made years ago and never revisited.

A vendor that performs well on a small first order does not always perform the same way at volume. We evaluate for both.

Our vendor evaluation includes:

  • Capability and capacity assessment
  • Quality system and certification review
  • Pricing and lead time benchmarking
  • Sample evaluation and first article review
  • Communication and responsiveness during issues
  • Long-term partnership fit for scaling volume

Production Support

Handing off a design and walking away is how small issues turn into recurring ones. Our Production Support keeps us involved through the early production runs, where most of the unexpected problems actually surface.

We stay close to the line until the process is stable, not just until the first batch ships.

Our production support includes:

  • First article inspection and sign-off
  • Process and yield monitoring
  • Root cause analysis for assembly defects
  • Engineering change order (ECO) management
  • Line support during new product introduction (NPI)
  • Documentation updates based on production feedback

Manufacturing Engineering for Every Industry

Production challenges look different depending on the product, but the underlying goal is always the same: build it right, consistently, at the volume the business actually needs.

Each of these comes with its own production tolerances and compliance expectations, and we plan around them rather than discovering them mid-build.

Industries we support:

  • Industrial automation and control systems
  • Medical devices and healthcare electronics
  • Automotive electronics
  • Consumer electronics
  • IoT and connected device platforms
  • Energy and smart metering systems
  • Fire and safety equipment
  • Telecommunications and networking

Test Jig Development

A product cannot ship faster than it can be tested. Our Test Jig Development work builds the fixtures and test setups that let a production line verify every unit consistently, without depending on a skilled technician for every single check.

A good test jig pays for itself the first time it catches a defective unit before it leaves the building.

Our test jig development covers:

  • In-circuit and functional test fixture design
  • Bed-of-nails and pogo pin test jigs
  • Automated test sequence development
  • Pass/fail criteria and data logging integration
  • Burn-in and environmental test setups
  • Jig validation and calibration support

Why Work with Ascenten on Manufacturing Engineering

A lot of manufacturing problems are preventable if someone catches them at the design stage instead of the production floor. That is the role we play, and it is one we take seriously because the cost of catching something late is rarely small.

01
End-to-End Expertise

Engineers who understand both design intent and shop floor reality.

02
Built-in DFM & DFA

DFM and DFA built into the process, not added as an afterthought.

03
Real Vendor Evaluation

Component and vendor decisions backed by actual evaluation.

04
Hands-on Production Support

Hands-on support through early production, not just a handoff document.

Custom Test Fixtures

Test fixtures designed around your actual product, not a generic template.

Proactive Problem Solving

Clear communication when something needs to change before it ships.

Whether you are taking a new product into its first production run or trying to fix recurring issues on an existing line, our engineers work through the problem with you rather than handing over a report and disappearing.

Success Story

  • Industrial grade very high speed DSL modem.
  • Challenge was to transmit and receive Ethernet packets at 100 MBPS over 1 km of PSTN twisted pair.
  • Ascenten undertook the engagement, studied relevant technologies, designed the original plastic casing, designed the hardware and delivered fully working prototypes in 32 weeks.
  • Passed all Safety, Immunity and Emissions tests at first attempt without re-spins.

  • Compliant with ETSI, ITU and ANSI standards.
  • Ultra low cost class 2 Energy Meter for solar electricity supply with energy management features and a safety switch board.
  • Ascenten worked closely with the customer taking them from the initial feasibility research to designing the look-and-feel, the plastic molds, the hardware, the embedded software, reliability testing and deployment.
  • Produced prototypes for field testing and validation.
  • Features rugged construction and a programmable remote control.
  • Features innovative, low cost techniques to reduce self power consumption, detect under voltage, over voltage, thermal management and electronic and mechanical tamper detection.
  • A beautiful and elegant handheld called Noumic (www.noumic.com) that uses four colored lights to indicate how well you relax.
  • In a busy world with hectic lifestyles, the Noumic encourages you to have benefiting self relaxation sessions providing feedback on how well you're doing.
  • When we were engaged to build Noumic, all we were told was to envision and bring to life a beautiful monolithic device that would sense body's electrical conductivity and conclude intelligently on how well the user was relaxing.
  • Ascenten performed detailed research on the physical principle behind the phenomenon, envisioned the design and over a year delivered a perfectly working Noumic.
  • Technically, the Noumic detects changes to skin resistance as subtle as 10 ppm (0.001%).
  • Automotive closed loop air injection system optimally controls LPG/CNG supply to the air-fuel mixer depending on quality of exhaust gases.
  • A lambda sensor is utilized to measure the air-fuel (AFR) ratio in the exhaust path.
  • The AFR is efficiently controlled to minimize emissions, maximize efficiency and improve vehicle mileage.
